Why a Mini Split for Hot Bedrooms & Back Rooms

That far bedroom is often the last room in the duct run, so it gets the least conditioned air. A ductless mini split puts the cooling (and heating) source right in the room. It’s a heat pump, so it works year-round: cold air in summer, warm air in winter. No ductwork, no tearing into walls—just a small indoor head mounted high on the wall, connected to an outdoor unit via a 3-inch hole.

This is the single most common call we get. The fix is straightforward, and it leaves your existing central system untouched, handling the rest of the house as designed.

What the Install Involves

Our standard install is same-day for most homes. We mount the indoor head on an interior wall (or exterior wall with a line-set cover), drill a small hole for the refrigerant and electrical lines, and place the outdoor unit on a pad or brackets. Everything is included in the flat price: the unit, line set, electrical disconnect, pad, and labor. We handle the TDLR-required permits and inspections.

No surprises. We show up, do the work, and you have a dedicated zone for that room within a few hours. The system runs on its own thermostat, independent of your central HVAC.

Sizing & What Affects the Price

Our flat pricing is based on the number of zones (indoor heads) you need. One zone is $1,500, two zones $2,500, three zones $3,500. This covers standard installations for rooms up to about 600 square feet per head. If your room is larger, has vaulted ceilings, or requires a longer line set run (over 50 feet), we’ll quote that before starting.

We serve Central Texas along I-35 from Waco to New Braunfels, including Austin, Round Rock, Georgetown, Cedar Park, Killeen, Temple, Belton, San Marcos, Kyle, and Buda. No travel fees within that area.

Questions

Will the mini split interfere with my existing central AC?

No. The mini split operates completely independently. It has its own compressor and air handler, so it won’t affect your central system’s airflow or balance. You can run both at the same time, or turn the central system off in that room entirely.

Can I install a mini split in a room with no attic access?

Yes. Because the line set runs through a small hole in the wall (typically 3 inches), we don’t need attic access. The outdoor unit sits on the ground or mounts to an exterior wall. This makes it ideal for slab-foundation homes or rooms where running ductwork would be impractical.

What if my room is larger than 600 square feet?

Our flat pricing covers standard rooms up to about 600 square feet per head. For larger rooms, we may recommend a larger-capacity unit or a second head. We’ll assess the room size, ceiling height, and window exposure during a free site visit and provide a firm quote before any work begins.
