A ductless mini split removes humidity from the air as it cools, and that moisture collects as condensate inside the indoor unit. In humid Central Texas summers, a single zone can produce over a gallon of water per day. That water must exit the house safely. Gravity drainage runs the line downhill to an exterior location, but when walls or obstacles block a straight slope, a condensate pump lifts the water to a higher drain point. We assess which method works before mounting the indoor head.

We run the drain line inside the wall or along the exterior, always with a continuous downward slope for gravity systems or a properly secured pump line. We start by identifying the best exit point for the drain, considering the home's structure and the location of the indoor unit. For wall-mounted heads, we often route the line through an exterior wall with a slight pitch. If the unit is in a basement, attic, or interior closet, a condensate pump is the reliable solution. We hide the line as much as possible and secure it to avoid kinks. The drain line is typically 3/4 inch PVC or vinyl tubing, and we insulate it when it runs through unconditioned spaces.

Our TDLR-licensed contractors handle the entire drain run during the same single-day install. We test the system by running the unit in cooling mode and confirming water exits at the planned location. If touch-up paint is needed after cutting a hole for the drain, we make a Home Depot run at no extra charge.
