The new outdoor unit sits on a pad or bracket at ground level, not on the roof. A line set carrying refrigerant and a condensate drain run from each indoor head to the outdoor unit, usually along an exterior wall or through a closet.

The electrical work includes running a dedicated circuit from the panel to the outdoor unit and sometimes to each indoor head.
