How we think about a replacement

A ductless mini split is a small outdoor condenser connected to one or more indoor heads by a line set that runs through a hole about three inches across. There is no duct work, so nothing is lost to a hot attic, and each head runs on its own thermostat. That is the whole idea. It suits rooms that were never served properly, additions, converted garages, casitas, shops, and houses where the duct work is worn out or was never there at all.

It is not always the answer. A house with sound duct work and a newer central system usually wants that system repaired, not scrapped. A whole house full of rooms would need more heads than most budgets want. A rental with two good years left in its equipment can wait. Every guide here says where the line is, because the fastest way to lose a customer in Central Texas is to sell them a job they did not need.

What does not change is the price structure. One indoor head is $1,500, two are $2,500, three are $3,500, materials and labor together, wired to code by a TDLR licensed contractor. We would rather say so than sell a job you did not need.
