Anything non standard gets quoted first, before a single tool comes out of the truck: a very long line set, an electrical panel that needs work, a difficult mount, a roof or masonry penetration, disposal of the old equipment. On the day the crew arrives early, lays down floor protection, and recovers refrigerant from the existing Fujitsu unit following federal rules. Indoor heads are taken off the wall, the outdoor cabinet is unbolted and lifted from the pad, and the line set is inspected. Reusable copper is flushed and pressure tested. New copper is pulled if the old set cannot stay. New indoor units are mounted on new brackets. The new condenser is set, lagged down, and piped. Joints are brazed, the system is evacuated, and refrigerant is weighed in. Power is connected at the disconnect. The condensate line is attached. Anything that is not standard is quoted in writing before any work begins. Examples include a new electrical circuit from the panel, a longer line set that requires extra copper and extra labor, a condensate pump when gravity drain is impossible, relocation of the outdoor unit more than a few feet, work on a third story, stucco or brick that needs special flashing, or an indoor unit that is not a wall hung head. We do not start until the owner has the extra numbers and has agreed. Reusing a sound line set saves time and avoids a new hole in the wall of an older house.

What if the repair quote I received is high?

If the repair is a single inexpensive component and the rest of the Fujitsu equipment is sound, we will recommend the repair instead of replacement. Is a mini split always the right replacement?

In those cases we recommend insulation and air sealing first, or we recommend keeping the current Fujitsu unit if a repair will suffice. A ductless system is a tool, not a requirement.
