A ductless system will not heat or cool rooms that do not get an indoor head. If your house has a large open plan that the original ducts already serve well, and the existing Lennox unit only needs one or two parts, keep the equipment you have. What Carries Over to a New Ductless System

The concrete pad under your existing outdoor unit can often remain in place if it is still level, thick enough, and free of major cracks caused by the expansive clay soil common in Central Texas. We inspect the pad on the first visit rather than assume it will work. A pad that has settled or heaved may need to be replaced or a new one poured beside it so the new condenser sits stable and drains properly. The existing wall penetration for refrigerant lines can be reused when its location lines up with a sensible indoor head placement and the diameter is adequate for the new insulated line set. In older houses the original hole is frequently in a closet or high on a wall where a modern head would look out of place or blow air poorly.

The existing line set itself is rarely reusable. Refrigerant lines for older equipment often have different diameters, may be contaminated, or lack the proper insulation thickness for a new ductless run. We pull new lines in most cases. The electrical disconnect and the circuit can frequently stay if the breaker size, wire gauge, and disconnect rating match the new outdoor unit. An undersized circuit or an old fused disconnect that no longer meets code will need an upgrade, which we quote separately. The mounting bracket for an indoor air handler, if the old system used a wall cassette or similar, almost never carries over because the new head has different dimensions and mounting points. Condensate routing is another item that often changes. Gravity drains that worked for a furnace coil in the attic may not suit a wall head that needs a pump or a new drop to the exterior.

What the Replacement Day Looks Like

Before the crew arrives you decide the number of indoor heads, which rooms receive them, and the preferred location for the new outdoor condenser. Those three choices drive line set routing, electrical work, and how condensate will leave the building. ATX Mini Split King can walk the house with you, note sun exposure on west walls, and point out where an addition or converted garage would benefit from its own zone, but you make the final placement calls. On replacement day we first recover any remaining refrigerant from your existing Lennox unit according to code, lock out the electrical, and remove the outdoor condenser and the indoor coil or furnace. The old equipment is taken off site the same day so it does not sit in the yard.

Next we set the new outdoor unit on the pad or a new stand, run the new line set through the chosen penetration or a new hole, and mount the indoor heads. Electrical connections at the disconnect and the indoor units follow, along with condensate piping or a pump if gravity will not work. We vacuum the lines, charge the system, and test each zone. The work is done to code by a TDLR licensed contractor. Typical single or two head jobs finish in one day. Three head jobs may run into a second day if the house is large or the line sets are long. You should expect some wall dust and a need to move furniture away from the work areas. We clean up before we leave.

Flat Pricing and What Is Included

ATX Mini Split King charges $1,500 for a standard replacement that uses one indoor head, $2,500 for two indoor heads, and $3,500 for three indoor heads. Each of those prices includes every material and all labor needed for a straightforward job. That means removal and haul away of the existing Lennox outdoor unit and indoor coil, a new outdoor condenser, the matching indoor heads, new insulated line sets, wall penetrations if required, condensate piping, electrical hookup at the existing disconnect, evacuation, charging, and testing. The figures assume the outdoor pad can stay, the circuit and disconnect are correctly sized, and the run lengths are ordinary for an Austin house. Anything beyond that standard scope is quoted in writing before we begin work so there are no surprises on the invoice.

Items quoted separately before any work starts include a new concrete pad or stand if the old one has failed, an electrical circuit upgrade or new disconnect if the existing one is undersized or does not meet current code, extra long line sets that require additional fittings or a lift, a condensate pump when gravity drain is impossible, and any carpentry or drywall repair beyond simple patching of the penetration. Keeping the existing equipment is the better decision when a single inexpensive part will restore cooling, the ducts already serve the whole house including any additions, and you do not mind the current noise or appearance. Mini splits require indoor heads on the walls. Some people dislike the look. They also leave unconditioned any room without a head, so a large unused bedroom or a hallway may stay hot. If your repair quote is for a capacitor or a contactor and the rest of the Lennox system still functions, spend the smaller amount and wait. An indoor head in the addition or the converted garage gives that area its own control without trying to force more air through old ducts that were never meant to reach there. You still decide zone count and head placement before we start. If the rest of the house is comfortable on the existing system, you may only need one extra head rather than a full replacement. How long does replacement take from start to finish?

Most one or two head replacements finish in a single day. Three head jobs can take a second day when line sets are long or the house layout is complicated. Ductless systems leave any room without a head unconditioned. They also change the look of the rooms.
